I am not generally someone who lusts after frivilous things. I get guilty when I buy books or music and I don’t buy them often. If I have to buy new clothes I always feel like I am spending money on something that isn’t as important as food or bills. I know I have issues with money, so when it comes to wanting things that aren’t 100% necessary, I find I even limit my dreams.
I don’t know if it’s because of the mood I’ve been in with the pain/strike/sick leave, or what. Lately those frivolous things have been catching my eye and I have a little tiny Dreamer Wishlist going in my head.
My friend Kristi often writes a post about books she’s pining for, this is the same sort of thing only about completely indulgent things.
First and foremost is this:

This one is a total indulgence because I already OWN the first 2.5 seasons. Many moons ago, seasons 1 & 2 were released and then HALF of the third season was released. I have been waiting YEARS for that second half to come out, but I think the rights to the show were in question and that never happened. Now, with the creation of The Hub cable station, this cartoon is back on the air once more to delight an entirely new generation. The ENTIRE series has been released in one boxed set and it’s unbelievably expensive.
This box set, however, is supposed to have new and exciting (truly outrageous?) special features and interviews. So, of course I want the entire thing. (I would then have 2.5 seasons of Jem on DVD to give away.
)
I saw this little gem on That Cover Girl’s book blog last month. She got it as a gift. I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with it. I have a fun case for my iPhone, but this one? This one looks like an old, worn, leather BOOK and it can hold your key ID/cards at the same time. So much love! Sadly, it’s $60 US plus shipping. It IS cheaper than the Jem box set though. heh
Gelaskins – Bookshelf Macbook skin
When we were at Best Buy picking up my lovely little 13′ Macbook Pro this summer, there were some cool skin/covers on a rack. I didn’t really like what was there, but Shawn thankfully wrote down the name of the product so when I said days later “I wonder what those skins were called” we could look them up online. It’s like he knows me. When I browsed the site I was captivated by this particular skin. It’s a BOOKSHELF! it’s very me. Even though it’s cluttered. One thing I miss about Molly the Laptop is my Emily the Strange sticker that I had on the cover. It made me look pretty badass when I was taking minutes at the council meetings. Heh. This isn’t badass, but it’s really cool. I’ve dropped in price, too. This one is only $29.99 US plus shipping.
Not all of my dreams are about books! I happened to be on twitter using Hootsuite, who for a while had a bunch of promoted (ad) tweets, and they linked to Threadless (a t-shirt shop?). The ad had something to do with Muppets and t-shirt designs, but as I was browsing I came across this one design that made me laugh. The poor little rhino! I think maybe he reminds me of Finnegan. Either way, I think this is a delightful, yet sad, design. I want a t-shirt with this on it. (Threadless has some cool designs and some really, really weird ones.) Price tag is dropping! $20 US plus shipping.
Clean Eating Magazine Subscription!
Ok, so this one isn’t as frivolous since I have been enjoying the issues of Clean Eating I bought myself. I have made many recipes from them all so far. I will actually be asking for this one as a legit Christmas gift idea (of my inlaw’s I think – don’t worry parents! I’ll think of something for you!
) It’s a gift I would continue using long after Christmas. It would save me having to troll the big box bookstores for the new issues – AND I’d get it before it got to the store (the friend I have who turned me on to this also lives in Canada and gets her copy early). This of course would mean I have to get a better mailbox. The one I have is tiny, with stupid holes in it (decoration, I guess) and EVERYTHING gets soaked in the rain or during winter. If I am getting a magazine in the mail, I want a mailbox that stays DRY.
I should add: MAILBOX = $$
Maybe I could ask Santa for a mailbox, too?
All of these together is a whole whack of money, which makes me feel super guilty and irresponsible at once. If we had the kind of disposable income that could allow for ALL of these purchases at one time, I would STILL feel guilty. I’m always worrying about having to pay the responsible things (which reminds me, I have to pay the second half of my school taxes this week. MUST REMEMBER!) and never feel right about buying the irresponsible things (though I do feel that the food magazine has some responsible merit to it!).
Meanwhile, I will come back to this post on occasion, when I am feeling blah and down and gaze longingly at the above items and dream that they are a reality. Everyone is allowed to have dreams, right? These are just things that have caught my fancy and I like to look at.
