helping daddy bar-b-q

annie may 28, 2008

Hullo everyone! It’s me, Annie! Tonight I was a very good girl and I helped my Daddy make dinner. Though he seems to have forgotten to give me my piece of hot dog and he and Mummy ate them all! How rude! My helpfulness was photographed for posterity. Maybe next time they’ll make pork bellies and give me some. YUM!

Jinx said he wanted to help, too but he’s too easily distracted by things like leaves and air. I knew how to be responsible and make sure Daddy didn’t burn himself – or more importantly, the food!

Keeping a close eye on things…

Are you sure you’re not going to drop anything??

I took a short break for a photo-op to make my Mummy happy. Don’t Jinx and I look pretty guarding the plastic chair?

Back to the task at hand. It’s very important to stay focused.

But we were sure you were about to drop something!

You always have to make sure the gas is turned off once everything is done or things could go bad.

Are they ready now? Huh? Can I have one?

Dinner is ready! Sadly none of those hot dogs fell off the plate. Drat! Maybe next time!

oooooh! so NOT funny!

After a particularly bad day at work, I was sitting in the car on the way home with my leg crossed over the other so that my poor toe could be elevated and released from the confining shoe. My knee started to cramp so I had to move my leg to put my foot down, as that happened the car went over a bump and I smashed my broken toe into the lower dashboard (where the gear stick thingy is).

As I sat there holding my toe, in immense pain, holding my breath and starting to cry… what should come on the radio but that stupid “You had a bad day” song!

Seriously!

Shawn was very obviously trying NOT to laugh.

I did not appreciate Fate’s timing in that matter. No I did not.

It was so not funny.

*mutter*

now we just need patio furniture…

And it’s done! Wooty woot! And lovely too, I might add!

My photo taking, not so level, but the deck is. I guess I’m just lopsided. I blame the sunburn and broken toe.

Our BBQ looks right at home and not so large on this deck. Those two chairs? Our only patio furniture.

Even Annie looks happy. I think it’s just because we finally have stairs and she no longer has to jump. Heh.

I did a lot of sitting today. Shawn and his dad did all the work. I made coffee and then bar-b-q’d hotdogs for lunch. I think that counts, no?

what’s going on in my backyard – right now!

You wanted deck photos, I got you deck photos – only it’s not finished so you’ll just have to be happy with what I have. The men are out buying more screws and I am in the basement appeasing my demanding readers!

Note Foreman Jinx inspecting the work…

Hmm, this seems to be level.

Foreman Jinx is wiped out from a morning of supervision.

And, more importantly my new hair cut (self-inflicted).

stupid toe

I don’t think I ever thought about how much I need my big toes until I broke one. Ow.

I stayed home all week with my foot up in the air and surrounded by ice. Have to say it helped a lot. By Friday afternoon the swelling had gone down and I was able to walk around more-or-less on my own. Which was good because my father-in-law came over to dig up the backyard and receive the wood delivery that would be our new patio in the back. Woo!

Saturday the in-laws plus dog came over and Shawn and his dad finished off the patio. I “helped” as in I sat in a chair, with my foot up and handed my father-in-law screws when he needed them. I’m a regular Bob Vila I am.

To be honest I was disappointed beyond belief that I wasn’t able to help much at all due to my broken toe. I had been looking forward to building this thing for a long time. I love being handy when I have someone who knows what to do show me what to do. Blast!

We still have railings and steps to attach and that’ll be next weekend since yesterday and today is crappy weather. Cold and rainy. Brr. Plus, we’re tired and Shawn had to lift up the entire patio like 3 times on Saturday to help level it. My man is strong like bear, yo, but his shoulders hurt the next day. :)

I haven’t been able to get to the basement much for computer and TV time due to the toe thing and I would only come down here in the evenings when Shawn was home. I have a lot of stairs in this house. I didn’t think about what would happen if I broke things when we bought it as I haven’t really broken anything that I know of before. Oops.

Tomorrow I go back to work. I am not really looking forward to it, but I have to go. I’m out of days to take off until the first of June. Oh, and I have work to do and stuff. But I don’t wanna. I like staying home. :) Though I would have been happier had I been able to DO things while home all week. It was so nice out, too and I was stuck on the couch. *mutter* I had plans to clean and build things this past weekend and didn’t get to do any of it. At least the building happened without my help. :)

So, yeah, in case you might have been wondering where the heck I’ve been. I’ve been up on the main floor. Oh, what I wouldn’t give for a wireless laptop these days. :)
