things on a friday

~~> I shall attempt jogging again today, however I have decided to make my own program within the C25K one. I shall run for the first 60 seconds and walk the 90 but I will also walk the next 60 seconds. Hmm, wait, that doesn’t work out because then I’d be running 90. Crap. Well I’ll do as much as I can, but I know that I need a longer walk time between the running since running for 60 seconds is hard. WHY IS IT HARD? It’s only 60 seconds! Or maybe I won’t even start the C25K app at all and just try to run from this to that while on the walk with Jinx. Maybe I’ll do that. After a few times out doing that maybe I will be surprised and able to do the first actual Day of C25K? Either way, today is a jogging attempt day.

~~> It’s not lost on me that the day after I attempted jogging the first time I was wiped out sick for 3 days. Extreme exhaustion, dizzy spells and nausea are not fun. I am convinced the cardio did it. =P

~~> Dudes! I am not a frozen-store-bought pizza fan at all, however Delissio Pizza has just come out with a new pizza: Buffalo Chicken! It’s just cheese, chicken and Frank’s Red Hot Sauce. I tend to stay away from anything hot sauce, but my tolerance has gotten much better since I no longer have the stomach issues. Shawn made one the other day and it smelled so good, so I tried a piece. I am in LOVE. We bought more just so I could have some. I have left overs in the fridge right now and am seriously contemplating trying this for breakfast. I know it’s not the healthiest thing, but it was on serious sale at the store and we like to have frozen things as backup in the house. If I can find a decent pizza dough I could always try this myself. It’s got kick, enough to make my nose run, but it doesn’t burn my tongue. Growing up in a family that considered pepper the “hot spice”, this is a huge step for me. ;)

~~> I am on yet another of my many vacation days today. It’s lovely working only 4 days a week. Scratch that, I only went in 3 days this week due to my taking a sick day on Wednesday. I hate having sick days on weeks that I already have time booked off, but there was no way I could have gone in on Wednesday. I was wide awake and ready to go at 7:55 am this morning. This really makes me cranky when I wake up early on my days off, but then again I can’t be that cranky about it if I woke up happy and rested. I feel the best I have felt all week. I really wanted to spend this “long” weekend cleaning, but it’s going to rain all weekend and I see no point in washing my floors if they are just going to get muddy again. (Ahh, living with dogs. I love it!) I’m going to refrain from washing the windows, too since it’s just going to splatter with rain, mud and leaf buds over the weekend, too. I can tell it’s really spring now (despite the cold temperature) because I am getting the cleaning bug.

~~> Speaking of dogs, I hope to have some exciting dog news to share soon. The news is pretty much confirmed the only non-confirmed part is when the confirmed part will happen. Needless to say we are very excited and I am hoping things work out sooner rather than later. Even though I only ever had one dog at a time prior to having Jinx and Annie together, I have to say just going from 2 dogs to 1 dog is still very lonely. I miss Annie so much every day and a handful of times each day something reminds me of her. I miss her little cat ears and her happy smile. Jinx is certainly lonely as he’s alone in the house now. Not that Annie did much, but she was THERE. Jinx has become extra sensitive in the house, hiding at any loud noise or slight raise in your voice. I guess with Annie not reacting to things he knew when he didn’t have to react. Now his wuss-radar is all over the place. I think he’ll be happy with the new dog news, too.

~~> I am enjoying spending the morning in my pajamas with a cup of decaf tea. I think I shall laze about for a while and then start putting away the winter jackets and boots and trying to tidy up the front foyer as much as I can before the rain and mud clutter it all up this weekend!

cycling fail

This morning I had a date to visit my sister and my niece. I brilliantly thought I might cycle on over there since they do not live very far and it would finally kick me to get the bike I had not ridden since August 2008 (italics = foreshadowing) out of the basement.

Of course when I got up this morning it was pouring rain. Lovely. The rain subsided about 15 minutes before I had said I would leave so I phoned my sister to ask if it would be ok if I left earlier to try and beat the rain. Sure, she said.

I was going to put on my raincoat but it was really too humid for something that heavy so dug my Mickey Mouse poncho (from a Disney trip many moons ago) out of the bench my grandfather made in the foyer and stuck it in the basket on my handlebars.

The night before I made sure the tires were filled with air using the electric pump my father lent me.

When I got on the bike Shawn mentioned that the tire in the back looked like it needed more air. I got off and squeezed the tire and it seemed fine, so I wobbled my way on the gravel roads, over bumps, all super-sexy in my Disney Fairies bike helmet and my MEC shoulder backpack filled with goodies for my niece.

At first I thought it was just rough going on the unpaved roads, especially since I hadn’t cycled in a while. However by the time I got about 5 minutes away (not even, I don’t think) I felt like I was trying to bike up Mount Everest with a tornado of wind in my face.

I knew I was out of shape, but not THAT out of shape. The route it completely flat AND bike path for about 1/2 of it.

Once I started to see spots out of my right eye and thought if I didn’t get off the bike right then I was going to throw up the half of a cup of coffee I’d had that morning.

So I got off the bike.

I called Shawn.

Shawn came to get me with the car and we loaded the bike in the back and he drove me the rest of the way to my sister’s.

I felt like a fool. But I think because of my bike’s history (which goes something like this: April 2008 buy the bike and keep it in the basement. May-August 2008 keep bike on deck in backyard where it gets rained on. August 2008 ride bike ONCE to dentist appointment (with no problems & it’s just a tad closer than sister’s house). Summer 2009 keep bike in BASEMENT entire summer and do not ride it once. Summer 2010 take bike out of basement night before attempting to ride to my sister’s place in July.) it might have needed to have been checked out a little better than I did before I attempted to ride it. The bike chain seems to be in need of oil and less dog fur. I could hardly pedal the darn thing and it’s not because I am not the most active person. I can ride a bike for 10 minutes dammit!

So I didn’t bike today. Not much. And my brother-in-law has offered to come look at the bike and fix the chain for me. Hopefully I will get to use it at some point this summer – and hopefully they’ll pave my stupid street before I sell the house and move away! (currently no plans for that.)

I WANT to ride my bike, I just don’t like riding aimlessly.
